Perpustakaan kelliling - mobile library

The “Sopoq Angen Mobile Library” project, initiated by the ECCO Foundation together with BASAntb, English Club Lombok and the Genggelang Village Government, was created to improve literacy access and educational opportunities for children and local communities in Genggelang Village, North Lombok. The program responds to the limited availability of books, libraries and literacy facilities in rural areas, where many children still have little access to quality reading materials and educational activities.

The project focuses on creating an inclusive and sustainable learning environment through a mobile library system that brings books, teachers and educational programs directly to remote hamlets.

Its main goal is to encourage reading habits from an early age, strengthen basic literacy skills, and increase awareness of the importance of education within families and local communities.

The main activities of the program include providing portable bookshelves and a collection of children’s, English-language, Sasak-language and local literacy books, as well as organising weekly rotating activities in different villages. These activities include English classes, educational games, storytelling, and shared reading sessions designed to make learning more engaging and accessible for children.

The project operates through a collaborative partnership model. Youth ECCO Indonesia is responsible for program implementation, fundraising, coordination, and reporting; English Club Lombok provides teachers and educational facilitators; BASAntb contributes books and literacy materials, including Sasak-language books; and the village government supports the project through local coordination and logistical assistance.

Women empowerment

The WISDOM (Women in Sustainable Development) program organized by the ECCO Foundation focuses on empowering women in Genggelang village through education, sustainability and community-based entrepreneurship. Through regular meetings and workshops, women from the village come together to exchange ideas, learn new skills and discuss challenges related to economic opportunities, environmental awareness and sustainable living. The program aims to create a supportive space where women can strengthen both their confidence and their role within the local community.

One of the main goals of the program is to encourage creative entrepreneurship by helping women develop small-scale projects connected to local culture and sustainable practices. Participants are introduced to ideas related to handmade products, local crafts, food initiatives, and environmentally conscious business models that can provide additional income for families while preserving local traditions ex. making ECO prints based on local-Sasak materials (kains). By combining creativity with sustainability, the program encourages women to see their knowledge and daily activities as valuable resources for future development.

Beyond entrepreneurship, WISDOM also emphasizes community connection and long-term social impact. The meetings create opportunities for women to build networks, support one another, and become more actively involved in local initiatives in Genggelang. Through this approach, the ECCO Foundation hopes to strengthen women’s participation in village development while promoting a more inclusive and sustainable future for the community.
