Learn Indonesian language: join the ‘Sama-Sama Belajar’ pilot course!

Have you ever dreamed of visiting Indonesia and being able to speak with local people in their own language?

Whether you are planning a trip, interested in Indonesian culture, thinking about working in Indonesia, or simply looking for a meaningful new learning experience, Sama-Sama Belajar is here to help you take your first steps in the Indonesian language, Bahasa Indonesia, with confidence.

Together, ECCO Foundation, English Club Lombok, and Sama-Sama Stories are launching a new pilot programme:

online Indonesian language course for complete beginners at BIPA 1 Basic Level!

The course will start in September 2026 and will be delivered online by qualified teachers from Indonesia.

Why learn Bahasa Indonesia?

Bahasa Indonesia is not only the national language of Indonesia. It is also a bridge to everyday conversations, local communities, culture, travel experiences, and deeper human connection.

For many people visiting Indonesia, even basic language skills can completely change the experience. Being able to greet people, introduce yourself, ask simple questions, order food, understand everyday phrases, or have a short conversation with local residents can make your journey more personal and meaningful.

We created this course for people who have never learned Indonesian before but would like to communicate at a basic level when travelling, volunteering, working, researching, or building connections in Indonesia.

About the course

The programme includes:

  • BIPA 1 Basic Level

  • 40 live lessons

  • 2 semesters

  • Online classes via Zoom

  • Course learning materials

  • Recorded sessions available for students

  • Qualified teachers from Indonesia

  • Possibility to continue learning after completing the course

The lessons will be held online, making the programme accessible to students from different locations. Because the Zoom sessions will be recorded, participants will be able to return to the materials, review the lessons, and continue learning at their own pace between classes.

One of the strongest elements of our programme is the teaching team.

We believe that one of the best ways to learn Bahasa Indonesia is directly from qualified teachers from Indonesia. The course will be led by educators with backgrounds in Bahasa Indonesia as well as English language teaching.

Who is this course for?

It may be especially interesting for:

  • people planning to travel to Indonesia;

  • people interested in Indonesian culture and society;

  • volunteers, researchers, or students;

  • people who may want to work or collaborate with communities in Indonesia;

  • learners who want to communicate more confidently during their stay in Indonesia;

  • anyone who would like to start learning a new language in a supportive and meaningful environment.

No previous knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia is required.

Course fee

The full course fee is:

€500 for the entire programme

This includes 40 online lessons across 2 semesters.

There will also be a possibility to pay in installments.

A special bonus: win an educational trip to Lombok!

As a unique motivation for our students, we are planning a special bonus for the best participant of the course: a free educational trip to Lombok, Indonesia.

The trip is planned to include:

  • return flight ticket;

  • accommodation;

  • meals;

  • meetings with teachers;

  • meetings with people involved in the project;

  • real-life Bahasa Indonesia practice;

  • opportunities to speak with local communities in Lombok.

We want this trip to be much more than a travel prize. It is designed as an educational and cultural experience where the selected student will be able to use Bahasa Indonesia in real situations, meet the teachers in person, and experience Lombok through direct human connection.

We are waiting for you to join the course, learn with us, grow with us and maybe become the student who travels to Lombok!

Important note: the trip bonus applies if at least 10 students register for the course.
